CLUB
CHASSIS AND CONSTRUCTION
Must consist of - A minimum of two hooped roll
bars. Diagonal anti-intrusion bar as a minimum to protect driver and passenger
in the event of a side on collision. These frames must be an integral part
of the chassis They shall protect and enclose the occupants.
MATERIALS:
The main hoop shall be of continuous length,
no crimping allowed. Main and all support pieces shall be of round tube
of suitable size and strength. Braces shall be used when necessary.
CONSTRUCTION:
Welds must be of good penetration, flux and
crack free and of uniform appearance
BODYWORK:
Free but of sound construction to protect the
occupants. Floor pan must be of sheet metal construction and must run the
length of the floor.
Should be of sound construction at the discretion
of the club. The seats shall be mounted at at least four points to strucurally
sound mounting points.
SAFETY BELTS:
Must be of minimum of lap-sash of sound condition
at the discretion of the club. Suitable wrist restraints be fitted for
left arm of passenger.
PROPULSION
ENGINE:
Free construction, size and location. Must
be securely and safely mounted. - Consideration should be given to emissions.
- Should have an adequate firewall between occupants and the engine. -
Must be fitted with an engine kill switch. -Engine ignition switch must
be accessible to driver when fully harnessed.
EXHAUST:
Mounted to avoid possibility of fire in areas
of use. No part may protrude from body work in excess of 150mm at rear
and must finish inside the measured track of side exit.
TRANSMISSION:
Free, however, must have an operational reverse
gear. If driveshaft runs inside cockpit they must be totally enclosed.
FUEL SYSTEMS
CARBURETTORS/ INJECTORS:
Free, however, they must be fitted with at
least two independently mounted return springs mounted at the carby or
throttle body to shut engine down if accelerator cable breaks. Accelerator
cable must be free of obstructions.
FUEL TANKS:
Commercial available or equal quality. Vent
pipes must be fitted to end below the level of the fuel tank and external
to the cockpit after it has been up higher than the fuel tank.
FUEL LINES:
Rubber fuel lines shall not pass thrugh the
cockpit unless mounted in a sealed metal pipe. No non-solid joins or breaks
allowed within the cockpit.
COOLING SYSTEMS
RADIATORS/ HOSES :
Free in design and position. Overflow containers
are considered part of radiator. If liquid passes through the cockpit it
will be in steel pipes and the crew shall be adequately protected.
OIL COOLERS/ PIPES :
As for radiators.
STEERING AND BRAKES
STEERING:
Must be of sturdy construction- at the discretion
of the club. Front ends must have no cracks or loose components which could
cause accidents.
BRAKES :
Must have brakes activating on at least two
rear wheels. Front brakes at the discretion of the owner. If only rear
wheel braking then an emergancy system (back up) should be fitted (handbrake).
ELECTRICS
BATTERY :
Battrey must be mounted to avoid accidental
spillage. The battery must be securely mounted to the vehicle. Battery
must have an isolation switch (red) mounted in the cockpit. Isolation switch
should be accessible to both occupants while harnessed and also accessable
to outside help.
LIGHTS :
A stop light from the braking system of 18
watts minimum and of red colour. A tail light operating whenever the isolation
switch is on of at 5 watts minimum and of amber colour (up watts for dusty
conditions like Alawoona) Both lights must be easily visible from behind.
Reversing lights - free Headlights - free
HORN :
An adequate operational warning device must
be fitted and able to be heard over the noise of the engine.
COMMUNICATION :
For locations such as the Coorong, AM CB's
are advisable. Leader and tail end charlie at least should have AM cb's
fitted.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
FIRE EXTINGUISHER :
Dry chemical fire extinguisher must be fitted
in the cockpit at all times and be in current test and fully charged. 900gm
capacity minimum complying to current Australian standards.
AERIAL :
An aerial of at least four metres from the
ground must be used at all locations, with the exception of Alawoona where
an aerial of two and a half metres may be used. Flag of red or orange colour
and six hundred sqaure millimetres in area. A light must be fitted (and
used at night) no lower than 500mm from the top of the aerial with a minimum
of 18 watts.
